The perception of Arabic-speaking philosophers in Europe has been limited to classical authors. The achievements of modern philosophers, especially women philosophers, in Arab countries have received little attention until today.

#AGYA lecture series on contemporary Arabic-speaking women philosophers is an innovative and multilingual attempt to enrich the debate on philosophy in Middle Eastern Modernism and the topicality of the historiography of philosophy. With lectures held by women philosophers from 5 different Arab countries the series ‘Contemporary Women Philosophers in Arab Countries. Intellectual Portraits’ displays contributions of Arabic-speaking women philosophers to the academic debate and their representation in the international discourse. Under the title of ‘Arabic Philosophy in a Global Perspective’ and as a second part of the international lecture series, lectures held in 2020 will focus on issues regarding global perspectives on the history of Arab philosophy in systematic and historical approaches.

The lecture series takes place at the University of Hildesheim, Institute for Philosophy and at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities (BBAW), 24 October 2019 − 19 February 2020.
